Butterclaw Lobster Co was co-founded by Rich Levy and Joe Dorf. Two native Chicagoans (well actually Rich is South African) who never set foot on a lobster boat in their lives. These two whipper snappers met while Rich was working on a consulting project at a restaurant where Joe was running the show.
Realizing that they were both two Jewish kids from Highland Park (hailing from the exact same neighborhood actually) they formed an instant bond over the ironic fact they they were now making a living selling lobster (so not kosher).
After a few months and for reasons that to this day remain unknown, their former employer let them go and the two pals had no source of income. Down on their luck and in the middle of a polar vortex they hatched a plan to launch the Butterclaw Lobster Co. Pretty cool name they thought. They found an old abandoned catering kitchen in Hermosa (just west of Logan Square) And the rest as they say is history.
So place your order today kids. Let there be Lobster.
